Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our IT asset disposal, data erasure, and e-waste recycling services.

General

Our primary focus is on business. However, we will work with individuals if they have a large quantity of goods.

If equipment is purely end-of-life e-waste with no recoverable value, a disposal fee may apply. However, depending on the type and quantity of equipment, we can often provide free collection or pay for items that contain recoverable materials.

  • ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems
  • ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems
  • ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management
  • AS/NZS 5377:2013 Collection, Storage, Transport and Treatment of end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment
  • BLANCCO Silver ITAD Partner

We don’t enforce a strict minimum for collections. Our services are designed to support businesses with larger volumes of equipment, but we’re always happy to discuss your requirements. For smaller quantities, drop-off at one of our locations or a local recycling partner may be the most practical option.

Absolutely. If your equipment is still suitable for reuse, we can help facilitate donations to charitable organisations. We can process and prepare devices for donation and work with your nominated charity, such as the Rising Sun Foundation, to ensure the equipment is put to good use.

By donating your technology, you not only reduce e-waste but also help provide valuable resources to communities and organisations that need them.

Collection & Logistics

Packaging your equipment is not essential, but it can help streamline the collection process. For larger or interstate collections where palletising may be required, having items prepared in advance can reduce the need for our team or agents to pack them on-site.

This can help minimise handling costs and may allow us to pass those savings back to you.

Yes, we provide collection services across Australia. We have agents located in all major cities, allowing us to arrange collections for businesses nationwide.

For regional or remote locations, we can still organise collection where equipment can be boxed or palletised in advance. Preparing items for transport helps ensure the process is efficient and allows us to coordinate collections more effectively.

To provide an accurate quote, we ask for as much relevant information as possible about the devices. This may include details such as the make, model, condition, processor, storage (HDD/SSD), memory, screen size, and quantity of items.

Photos of the equipment are also very helpful and can often allow us to assess the devices more quickly and accurately.

We recycle a broad range of IT and telecommunications equipment, including:

  • Laptops and tablets
  • Desktop computers and workstations
  • All-in-one computers
  • Monitors and displays
  • Enterprise servers and storage systems
  • Networking equipment
  • IP phones and mobile computing devices
  • IT components and internal parts
  • Peripherals and accessories

Once equipment is collected, Excess Technology assesses each item to determine the most responsible outcome. Devices that are suitable for reuse may be refurbished and resold or prepared for donation to charitable organisations. Equipment that has reached the end of its usable life is processed through our recycling streams, where materials are responsibly separated and sent to approved downstream recyclers.

Once you accept a quote, we arrange collection of your equipment and perform a complete audit of all items. If required, we securely erase data from drives and provide certified data destruction.

After the audit and any data erasure are complete, you’ll receive a detailed audit report and certificates of data destruction. You can then submit your invoice for the agreed amount, ensuring a fully transparent and streamlined process.

Data Security

Yes. We provide Blancco-certified data erasure certificates for drives that are securely wiped, as well as certificates of destruction for drives that are physically destroyed. This ensures full traceability and compliance with data security standards.

Simply deleting files does not fully remove private data. To ensure complete data security, we recommend using our professional data erasure services, which comply with industry standards, including NIST 800-88. We can perform 1, 3, or 7-pass wipes using Blancco software, physically destroy drives with our ‘Garner PD-5 Data Destroyer’ crushing machine. OR we are able to degauss HDDs and tape drives using the Garner HD-2XTE IRONCLAD, ensuring sensitive information is permanently and securely removed.
